Wine Maker's Notes: Ma Danseuse charms the eye with its ruby red color and crimson-red color. The nose exhibits a bouquet of roses, raspberry, Griotte cherry, strawberry, forest floor, and a subtle note of violet. Delicate, fragrant, complete and refined, 2013 Ma Danseuse has on the palate a wonderful concentration of red fruits, red rose blossoms, with subtle notes of Asian spices, hazelnut, mineral and pheasant fur, which embraces a silky texture and lingering aromatic finish. It will continue to express its potential for two decades.
About Wine & Vineyard: The fruit for Ma Danseuse is grown in specific blocks of our Seaview estate vineyard. This is the northern most section of the vineyard. It is also the coolest, as the marine influence coming from the north, following the Gualala River, is most concentrated here. In addition, Ma Danseuse faces subtly more toward the north and therefore receives slightly less sun exposure than Clos du Ciel or Le Caprice. Ma Danseuse translates to "My Dancer", and was named by Sir Peter in honor of Lady Michael. The two met on the dance floor. Ma Danseuse is the most feminine of the botttlings, aptly reflecting the charm of its namesake.
In 1982, after a six year search, Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael purchased 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley. Drawing inspiration from the great wineries of Burgundy and Bordeaux, the family hired like-minded viticulturists and winemakers to help them create terroir-driven wines that would stand the test of time.
